The first annual conference: 2014 Food Physical Processing and Equipment Symposium

     On July 9, 2014, the Food Physical Processing and Equipment Symposium was successfully held at Jiangsu University. The conference was organized by the Rural Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology and hosted by the School of Food Science and Engineering of Jiangsu University. Eight experts from the fields of physical processing and equipment at home and abroad, as well as teachers from the School of Food Science and Engineering, attended the symposium.

     The conference was presided over by Dr. Xun Wei from the Agricultural High-tech Department of the Rural Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Danping Jiang, the associate director of the Rural Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, delivered the starting speech. The president of Jiangsu University, Shouqi Yuan, attended the symposium and delivered a welcome speech on behalf of Jiangsu University.

President Shouqi Yuan expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Science and Technology leaders and experts attending the conference who supported and cared about the development of Jiangsu University. He welcomed all leaders, experts, and scholars to participate in the first annual conference of Jinshan Forum, and introduced the recent development of Jiangsu University. President Yuan also expressed that he hoped to take this symposium as an opportunity to establish academic contacts and profound the friendship with experts, and further expand the development of food physical processing and equipment of Jiangsu University. Associate director Danping Jiang delivered a speech, pointing out that the symposium would promote the academic exchanges in the field of food physical processing and equipment, especially to boost industrialization to transform into the economic strength.

     At the symposium, Professor Xiaosong Hu from China Agricultural University, Professor Zhongli Pan from the University of California, Davis, Professor Wenjie Zhao and Professor Haile Ma from Jiangsu University, Professor Ruijin Yang from Jiangnan University, Professor Yunyang Wang from Northwest Agriculture & Forestry University, Professor Xinan Zeng from South China University of Technology, Professor Wei Liu from Nanchang University respectively gave a thematic speech about food ultra-high pressure processing technology and equipment, food infrared processing technology and equipment, food/agro-products rapid non-destructive detection technology, the innovation and industrialization of food multi-mode ultrasonic processing technology, the industrialization prospect of high-voltage pulsed electric field technology, food radio frequency heating technology, pulsed electric field and microwave enhanced food processing, and the modification of food macromolecules by dynamic high-pressure microjet technology. The conference focused on the communication of the fundamental theory, experimental method establishment, equipment development, and industrialization in the field of food physical processing. Domestic and foreign experts jointly discussed the trends in the field of food science and technology. After the speeches, Professor Ma invited the experts to compose Advances in the Food Physical Processing Technology and Equipment, compiling and summarizing the outcomes in their research fields from four aspects: basic concepts and technical characteristics, research progress, developments trends, and countermeasures and suggestions.

     Dr. Wei from the Agricultural High-tech Department of the Rural Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology made a concluding speech, fully affirmed the achievements of the first annual conference of Jinshan Forum, and expressed sincere gratitude to the experts attending the conference, hoping to receive their concern, support, and guidance in the future. He also mentioned that the Rural Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology would continue to vigorously support the fundamental research and industrialization in the field of food physical processing and equipment.
